William Martin "Bill" Gordon opened Gordon Mortuary in May of 1948 at 305 West Cherokee Street. In 1996, under the ownership of The Alderwoods Corporation, the former Duke Energy building was purchased and renovated, in order to become the current location of Gordon Mortuary. The picture to the left is the 1948 - 1996 Gordon Mortuary building.
In November, 2007, Bill's nephew, Scott Gordon, purchased Gordon Mortuary in Blacksburg from Port Eslewhere II, Inc.
Scott's youngest son, Adam, became a third generation Gordon funeral director/embalmer when he became licensed in August of 2006. Adam became manager of Gordon Mortuary in 2007.
May of 2017 brought the opportunity for the Gordon family to expand into Gaffney. After being corporate-owned for nearly 20 years, Shuford-Hatcher Funeral home, which had been open since 1925, was purchased and converted into Gordon Mortuary of Gaffney.
